Return to Earn Grant Program Applications Available through Virginia Career Works

In June 2021, Governor Northam announced a $3 million investment to launch the Return to Earn program to help Virginians transition back into the workforce. The program provides support to eligible small businesses who offer hiring incentives to new workers. Businesses with less than 100 employees in Virginia can qualify for matching funds up to $500 when they pay a sign-on bonus or incentive to new workers.

To qualify, the bonus must be paid to a worker who:

• is making at least $15 per hour
• was unemployed at the time of hire
• is working in a position that qualifies at taxable (W-2) employment

Qualifying childcare businesses may be eligible to receive up to $500 per new hire without the match requirement.
