Required Trainings (Before Your Begin)
Campbell County Economic Development has partnered with the Small Business Development Center-Lynchburg Region to ensure all Start Small Campbell Grant applicants have received guidance in developing an effective business plan as well as other fundamental small business principles. To ensure your business plan meets the basic requirements to be competitive for this grant, contact the SBDC-Lynchburg Region to schedule a review of your business plan before you complete this web-based application.
Applicants are required to attend at least two Start-Up Toolbox workshops (formerly Start Smart) with the SBDC-Lynchburg Region. Classes are offered regularly throughout the year. Contact the SBDC-Lynchburg Region at (434) 845-5966 for more information.

General Information
Name of business owner completing the form. All other owners of the business should be listed under "Additional Business Owners."
As listed on your Campbell County Business License. If operating under a fictitious or trade name, please list both the legal name and operating name.
Street address in Campbell County where the business is/will be operating. (Should match information on Campbell County business license application).
Includes members of a partnership and officers of a corporation or limited-liability company (LLC). Sole proprietors may enter "None."
The Start Small Campbell Grant Program is available to start-up business (less than 3 years in operation) and businesses opening their first location in Campbell County.
An employer identification number (EIN) is a nine-digit number assigned by the IRS. Sole proprietors have the option of using their Social Security Number, but it is not recommended.
The Start Small Campbell Grant Program is intended for businesses licensed in Campbell County. Start-up businesses which have not yet obtained their license should enter "In Process" and should provide an explanation of their status in the Additional Information section below.
Business Plan
Copy and paste the elements from your SBDC Staff Reviewed business plan into the fields below.
Briefly tell the grant committee what your company is and why it will be successful. Include your mission statement, your product or service, and basic information about your company’s leadership team, employees, and location.
Provide detailed information about your company. Go into detail about the problems your business solves. Be specific, and list out any consumers, organizations, or businesses your company plans to serve. Explain the competitive advantages that will make your business a success. Are there experts on your team? Have you found the perfect location for your store? Your company description is the place to boast about your strengths. In this section, describe your management team and each person's area of responsibility. Show how each person's unique experience will contribute to the success of your venture.
Identify your target market/typical customers. What are your customers looking for? Describe the industry's growth potential including customer trends. Describe your competitors. Who are they? What makes them successful? What are their strengths and weaknesse? What is your competitive advantage--better location, convenience, pricing, hours, product quality, service?
Explain how you intend to operate your business. Describe your location and facilities, your workforce, hours of operation, and your method of record keeping and accounting.
Describe how you plan to attract and retain customers. Also describe how a sale will actually happen.
Describe what you sell or what services you offer. Explain how it benefits your customers.
Describe assets and/or resources you have in place to finance your business. Information on what assets/financing are needed to effectively run your type of business will be helpful for the review committee.
Please include the business name in the document's name. Upload a Profit and Loss Statement (revenue, cost of goods/services, and operating expenses) and 3-year Projection of Income.
