Free Mulch Still Available to Campbell County Residents at Livestock Road Transfer Site

RUSTBURG, VA - Mulch serves several purposes-it holds in moisture and regulates temperatures. It keeps weeds out and feeds the soil. A truck full of mulch costs about $30 with most yards needing more than one load, but, thanks to the efforts Campbell County Public Works, citizens may come collect all the mulch they would like at the Livestock Road Transfer Site (361 Livestock Road, Rustburg, VA 24588). Just come prepared to bag and load your own.

"The mulch is produced from grinding yard waste that is brought to our collection facilities,” said Brian Stokes, Director of Public Works. “Through processing and recycling it, we are able to then offer it to our residents for free, which helps them spruce up their landscaping without spending a dime."

The mulch loading area is located at the Livestock Road Transfer Site, which is located off of U.S. 29, near the Livestock Market. The chipped brush mulch is available, at no cost to Campbell County residents, on a first-come, first-served basis. Residents must load their own mulch, and will need to bring their own tools, such as pitchforks, to do so.

While most landfill mulch programs operate at a cost, Campbell County is able to offer this to citizens free of charge. The mulch has been available for several weeks, but there is more left to distribute, so residents are encouraged to take advantage of this free service.

“It’s a win-win for us," said Stokes. "Not only does it eliminate waste from our landfill, but it naturally helps residents to keep their yards sustained during the fall and winter.”
