Floor Signing Held at the 2022 St. Jude Dream Home in Trent's Landing

At the 2022 St. Jude Dream Home in Campbell County’s Trent’s Landing community, contractors and supporters gathered on July 21, 2022 for the traditional signing the subfloors of the home in support of the children treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Danner Evans of WSET broadcast live from the house for their noon newscast at the signing and noted this is the first time they have been able to get together for the signing in three years. The home is very nearly finished and the event, a tradition for the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway houses, happens before the final flooring is installed as the house nears completion. Russ Lancy of St. Jude spoke to those assembled. “Imagine the person that lives here in 5 or 10, 15, maybe 20 years, when they change this flooring out. Maybe they just forgot, or maybe they don’t know that this was the St. Jude Dream Home--when they pull that padding back--what an incredible blessing you are going to create for them to know that they are in the home that fights childhood cancer.”

“The housing industry are the ones making this happen” Lancy said. The program recently reached the milestone of $600 million in national fundraising for St. Jude’s and, he continued, “you guys specifically (in Central Virginia area) have raised two and a half million dollars” with the four houses that have been built here.

Several local businesses joined in the signing with representatives from builder Forest-based Custom Structures including Brown’s Heating and Air in Timberlake, Kyle Unruh’s Pest Pros, and WYYD radio. Other sponsors span the lengths and breadth of Campbell County, including Francis Oil & Propane in Brookneal, Spectrum Stone Designs in Concord, Boxley Aggregate on Lawyers Road, Campbell County Utilities and Service Authorities in Timberlake, and Campbell County Building Inspectors in Rustburg.

The home giveaway will take place on August 24. All the tickets for this year’s Dream Home have been sold.
