Public Art Show

Come enjoy the beautiful artwork on exhibit by some of our area's best artists. Art will be available to purchase. Light refreshments will be served. Tickets are for all visitors.

Art Show Contest Participants

Any artist that wishes to participate must send a completed participant agreement. Separate categories for students and adults. Cash prizes and ribbons will be awarded. Please email avocamuseumevents@gmail.com for the participating artist form.

Canvas is picked up at 8 am from Avoca museum on March 3, 2023. It must be turned in by 5 pm the same day. If you still need time to work on your project, you have 4 hours Saturday, March 4, 2023, 8 am- 12 pm to complete your project. The display of finished art will start at 2 pm at Avoca. While judging is taking place, please feel free to browse the art for sale from the various artist's booths. Food and drink vendors will be available.

The Artist entry fee is $25.
Student discounted rate is $20

● This entitles you to participate in the event With a chance to win cash and ribbons.
● Entitles you to a 12’ x 12’ vendor space to sell your art Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Entry categories
• Best Plein Air Acrylic
• Best Plein Air Oil
• Best Plein Air Pastel
• Best Plein Air Watercolor

Monetary prizes & Ribbons will be awarded.
$250- 1st place
$100- 2nd place
$50- 3rd place

Rules:
• March 3, 2023- 8 am- pick up canvas at Avoca. We supply a canvas. You choose a spot anywhere in Altavista and paint or draw what you see. Your art can be that of a tree, animal, people or building. Bring your work in progress to Avoca by 5 pm on March 3rd. You have 12 hours to complete your “Our town” canvas- Eight hours Friday and 4 hours Saturday, March 4th morning. They will be auctioned off to support education events at Avoca Museums & Historical Society.

• Art must be your original outdoor artwork.
• You may not take canvas home.
• Competition is open to residents of any state or country.
• Each entry must be accompanied by an entry fee.
• You must bring your own paints, brushes, easel or etc.
• All entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid prior to entering

JUDGING:
● After the close of competition, an invited guest judge selects the best paintings from each category.
● In the event a judge who has been promoted is unable to judge for any reason, an alternative judge will be appointed. If one cannot be found, judging will be done by Avoca Board members.
● Winners will be selected in each category.
● In the event a category does not have enough entries or paintings of high enough quality, judges may decide not to award recognition in that category.
