English Park is conveniently located near the shops and restaurants of downtown Altavista, and is a popular launching point for canoeists and kayakers wanting to spend the day on the Staunton River. River enthusiasts who "put in" at English Park float to either Long Island Park or the Brookneal Boat Ramp. Other amenities available in the park include a playground, numerous athletic fields, restrooms, and walking trails, as well as grilling and picnic facilities. The stage at the Booker Building often hosts musical performances.
