In a time when more people are seeking more fresh, local sources for produce, we give you the latest Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, headed by multi-generational century farmer, Aaron Puckette.

Puckette Farms, a family-owned and operated century farm, has been in Aaron's family since his great great grandfather, James Douglas Puckette, and his wife, Victoria, first purchased the 121-acre property in the early 1900s. Coming from a multigenerational farming family, Aaron has had his hands in the dirt all of his life, “I would farm 8 days a week if possible.”

Immersing themselves in the world of agriculture, the family has been stewards of the land to raising timber, tobacco, hemp, and cattle, and recently completed their first produce season distributing 6,000-bushel boxes to grocery stores along the east coast.

This effort to grow produce began as a desire to better serve the local community as well as to make the farm lucrative for the 5th generation, his children, nieces, and nephews. They are Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certified, have 100 acres of organic certified land, and have future plans to expand their organic operation.

With an incredibly successful 2022 season, Puckette Farms is looking ahead to 2023 to expand its CSA operation. In a typical CSA program, members pledge to help cover the anticipated costs of the farm’s production for part or all of the growing season. In return, the members receive a portion of the farm’s crops over the time specified in the CSA membership agreement, usually summer through early fall. The CSA allows the farm to have working capital in the late winter and early spring when it is needed most and aids in guaranteeing a market for the produce that will be grown.

In this particular CSA, members can expect to receive a weekly ½ bushel box, containing approximately 15 items, of your summer favorites such as yellow squash, zucchini, watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots, potatoes, sweet yellow corn, kale, onions, green beans, collards, bell peppers, acorn squash, pumpkins, and much more!
