Quality Suites to Celebrate 150th Anniversary of Arbor Day in Altavista

Campbell County Economic Development is pleased to share that Quality Suites in Altavista will be holding a community event on Friday, April 29th for Arbor Day and a Celebration of Life honoring the lives of team members of the Quality Suites and Choice Hotels who have been lost over the past two years. Each of the former team members, including LaRhonda Allyson Hewitt, Paul Wayne Slusher, Debbie Vince Mccoy and James Robert Beeker II, will have a tree or bush planted in their honor as the hosts help the community celebrate the 150th year of Arbor Day.

The Virginia Department of Forestry is providing pine tree seedlings for the first 50 attendees, who are encouraged to plant the trees throughout the Altavista community. The Commonwealth of Virginia celebrates the tree planting holiday of Arbor Day annually on the last Friday of April. The Arbor Day Foundation asserts that "trees play a critical role in creating healthier, safer, and more connected communities." Whether it is cleaning the air, filtering the water, or even slowing a storm surge to prevent flooding, trees offer consistent and effective long-term advantages for businesses and communities alike. 

Brian Knopp, Regional Sales Director for Hilton Hotels, tells Economic Development that this event will include special guest speaker Rev. Eduardo Soto of Altavista Presbyterian Church delivering remarks following a welcome by Altavista Assistant Town Manager Matt Perkins. Refreshments will be provided courtesy of Tharp Funeral Home. Following the event, the local Altavista Camp of the Gideons International will also be presenting and dedicating 75 Bibles for the guest rooms of the hotel.

The event will begin Friday at 11:00am at the Quality Suites, which is located at 1558 Main Street in Altavista.
