Moore's Electrical & Mechanical in Altavista made front-page news in The News & Advance for their events celebrating Women in Construction Week. Among other activities, Moore's sponsored a breakfast with several guest speakers and invited heavy equipment vendors to bring in equipment such as skid steers and mini-excavators for an equipment rodeo. According to Jacque Oakes, partner care leader, women make up a little over 10% of the Moore's workforce, which aligns with national trends according to the Institute for Women's Policy Research.

The article by Rachael Smith, featured in Wednesday, March 13th's edition, describes how several of the women employees made their way to Moore's, including former teacher, now assistant project manager Amanda Berger and industrial electrical helper Emily Gomez, who were both surprised at how much they enjoy the construction industry. Andy Moore, president and CEO of Moore's Electrical & Mechanical, describes the construction industry as a valuable opportunity for women seeking work in the field or in management.

Opportunities for industrial certifications and continuing education are available at several local post-secondary institutions including Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg and Virginia Technical Institute in Altavista. Career opportunities at Moore's Electrical & Mechanical can be found on their website.
