English Park is conveniently located near the shops and restaurants of downtown Altavista, and is a popular launching point for canoeists and kayakers wanting to spend the day on the Staunton River. River enthusiasts who "put in" at English Park float to either Long Island Park or the Brookneal Boat Ramp. Hat Creek Golf Course is one of the most challenging 9 hole golf courses available in Virginia.  The course is VSGA rated, par of 72, playing a total of 6,100 yards for 18 holes.  A driving range and practice green is available as well as a fully stocked clubhouse with a snack bar.

The Liberty Mountain Trail System affords visitors a unique hiking and biking experience. This system covers approximately 65 miles throughout nearly 5,000 acres of varied terrain including trails that are flat, hilly, and extremely mountainous. Trails include double and single track, as well as former logging roads. Enjoy spectacular views of Lynchburg and the distant Blue Ridge Mountains and Peaks of Otter from the top of the mountain. Timbrook Park, one of Campbell County's newest recreational areas, offers residents and visitors alike the opportunity to utilize soccer, football, and baseball fields, as well as a volleyball court and playground. A pond is available for catch-and-release fishing, and several hiking trails are available for walking or biking. Grills and picnic tables are also available.
